Golfing with the W's

Golf outing at FGC with my friends, Winston & Wilson.
Came out earlier to warm up on the range.

The three of us got the $25 email special.

View of the #1 fairway this morning.

Me and Wilson, it's his first time playing a longer 18 hole course.

Wilson taking his tee shot.

Winston at #2 tee box, he shot a 99 today!

We teed off at 10:15am and made it to #9 by 12:30pm.

Wilson driving on #10 tee box; we skipped lunch and started playing on the back 9.

We got the 18th hole before 3:00pm.
This was my 4th time playing here this year (15th time total) and third time this month.

AJ's 1st 18 holes (Fullerton GC)

Aaron before his first round of 18 hole golf.
Warming up before playing is important!

The first fairway at Fullerton Golf Course - about 368  to the greens.

Not only is AJ driving the ball, he gets to drive the golf cart too!

The guys we played with today with their monster driver shots (Brock and Mike).

Mike coaching Aaron on how to hit out of a bunker at #11.

Last drive of the day, Aaron at #18.

2012 US Open

Watching most of the four rounds of the US Open this weekend.
Tiger Woods started off great in the first two rounds and then collapsed in the 3rd and 4th rounds. It became a train wreck that I couldn't stop watching.

2003 US Open winner, Jim Furyk was leading most of the way from the 2nd round up to the last few holes when an errant tee shot hit a tree and he double bogeyed!
Webb Simjpson ended up winning the 2012 US Open but had his trophy presentation interrupted by a "birdman" fan!
It was a very disappointing to watch this tournament this weekend!

Golfer's Paradise - Fullerton

Driving range get together with a friend (helping him breaking in a new set of clubs).

It's been almost 5 years since I was last here, I saw that they expanded their services to include a nice little cafe business (Asian/Korean/American food) here. In fact, the place was totally packed at lunchtime and we had to park in the overflow parking lot! In hindsight, I should have grabbed a copy of their menu to see what they offered. Oh well, let's do that for another time.

Here are their regular range ball prices. I also forgot to take a photo of their 18 hole putting course, which is pretty unique, I think. Sort like mini golf but without the "windmills" and "clowns".
I was encouraged to used their smartphone scanned discounts and got this ...
A regular large bucket (150 balls) plus a small bucket (75) balls for $11 (about 5 cents per ball).
Here's their early bird special.

Here's my friend, W trying out his new driver (from his new set of clubs), after some minor adjustments and tips from me, he was hitting pretty good!
We got in some putting on the free putting greens too before heading off to lunch.

Casey Martin competing again

After watching a piece on Casey Martin this morning on CBS, I remembered about the controversy some 10 years ago when he sued and won the right to use a golf cart to compete on the PGA tour.

Casey is currently the golf coach for the Oregon Ducks and former college teammate of Tiger Woods. I hope he does well this week at the US Open! What an inspirational story of human perseverance!

Costa Mesa Country Club

Checking out the golf course in Costa Mesa today.

Nice looking driving range and beautiful courses here, have to come back someday to play!

Back to LB Big Rec after 5 years

Long Beach "Big Rec" Golf Course

It was nice to see to nice improvements made since 2007.

The short piecemeal driving ranges were the same.

Big Rec's Club house and restaurant.
Hugo and Winston are ready to start their round.

Our foursome is backed up with another foursome in front of us; we teed off around 9:30am.
Hugo had only been playing for a few weeks but he hit some great shot on the fairway.

Winston bombed some great drives today!

Peter continues to improve. This was only the 2nd 18 hole that he's ever played.

It's not reflected in my score today but I hit a lot of great drives, chips, and putted well (it's all the shots in between the drive and the short game that I messed up on).

Still, I had fun playing on this course again after an absences of nearly five years and I actually finished the 18 holes for the first time ever. (Only played less than 18 or 9 holes here before on four previous outing). I love this course because it's totally wide open and NO WATER HAZARDS!

Afterwards, Winston and I grabbed some really late lunch at the nearby L & L BBQ in Long Beach. His wife works just down the street from the golf course.
Believe it or not this was the "mini" BBQ chicken bowl!
Good Times at Long Beach Big Rec Golf Course! Thanks Peter for treating me to a really fun round of golf, hope you're feeling more confident for your workplace golf tourney now!
