Coyoto Hills GC

Coyote Hills GC in Fullerton

DB, Jeff and Rodney with "Payne Stewart"

What a great experience it was to play at one of the premium golf course of Orange County! My friends and I got to play at the cut rate $40 Memorial Day weekend special. I believe that Payne Stewart was the course architect; the street leading into the golf course is named for him as well as a statue of him in front of the pro shop.

We teed off before 4:00 pm and finished the front 9 holes at 6:10 pm. Playing from the “Blue” tees, we were fortunate to complete the back 9 holes by 8:10 pm. The course was both very challenging and enjoyable! The Amenities were fantastic! Wonderful fairways, GPS equipped carts with personal ice coolers and mostly friendly staff.

I lost more than a few balls (but then I bought a sack full of Wal-Mart Blitz balls) on the various hazards and think I nailed a couple houses along the fairway. I think my “Blitz” balls were kinda of lucky, though … I found more of than few of them back on the fairway after some of my wayward shots went thru trees or up hills. Otherwise, I had some really nice drives. On a couple occasions, I out-drove my two friends who are both very good golfers. Alas, my scoring still reflects on my lack of experience on such a great course (I have been measuring my golfing skills on the easier courses). I still need to tighten up on my short game especially on my putting. I pretty much 3 – putted thru the entire course. I shot a 117 / 45 for the day.

My biggest regret was that we didn’t have the time to take in how nice the course was laid out and to really enjoy the challenges that each hole presented to us. I felt like I was dining at a nice gourmet restaurant but treating it like a regular hamburger joint!

A great golfing experience! Thanks Wai for the heads up and reservation!
