18 holes at Birch Hills (and locked in!!)

A golf course is a great way to spend a relaxing Sunday especially if most of the sports mind LA folks are going be watching the Lakers play the Celtics in game 2 of the NBA finals (I had a bad feeling about tonight's game too). The golf course was nearly deserted!

I played with a group of Korean Americans in pickup game. They reserved their tee time on line (for the Sundowner special for $10 each) while I walked on and paid the Super Twilight rate for $19.00! Being Chinese, I wanted to get in all 18 holes if I was paying top dollar (but this would come back to bite me)!

This is the first time I've played at Birch Hills this year (the last time being in December 2007). I felt alittle rusty and didn't hit as well as I wanted. I only managed a couple pars on the front 9.

I wasn't hitting very straight today.

I did get one GIR (greens in regulations) on #8 and had a chance for birdie but settled for par instead.

We finished at almost 7:00pm and it was still light (first 9 holes took about an hour and 45 minutes).

The 2nd 9 holes took about an hour and a half. I finished with a 94/35 (46/17 on front 9 and 48/18 on the back 9).

My foursome was all happy to have finished on this Sunday evening and was ready to go home for a late supper. Unfortunately, the BHGC staff decided to lock us in. I was totally panic stricken at first since this hadn't happen to me the first 36 times I played at BHGC.

Celebration turned into panic as all of us called various people for help. I called my roomie for the Brea PD phone #. I did manage to get the dispatcher but got the official disclaimer that if the parking lot was posted, the PD isn't going to come out to unlock the gate. Thankfully, the Dispatcher got ahold of the management of the golf course and they agreed to come out and let our three cars out of the parking lot. We ended up trapped for less than an hour after finishing out 18 holes into darkness!

Fortunately, I didn't have to abandon my car at the golf course overnight. BTW it was still a good decision to skip the Laker game to play golf (the Laker lost their 2nd game to the Celtics tonight!).
